PROJECT
Havelock Place, North Tyneside

Year of project: 2021

Project specification: Ambic Manufacturing worked with partners on a ground breaking project in North Tyneside. Havelock Place is a joint project between Northumberland Estates and Age UK North Tyneside’s EveryDay Homes. Situated on a three-acre site in Backworth adjacent to the A19, it is the first of its kind in North Tyneside providing specialist housing for 40 people living with dementia or other cognitive impairment.

After extensive discussions with Age UK and their Dementia specialist, Ambic designed & manufactured furniture items with rounded edges and a contrasting edging for safety and identification. Furniture had to be safe and sturdy, with a contemporary feel and easy to clean surfaces for a high standard of hygiene. Working with Rachel from Amaze me Interiors & Gavin from Armitage & Wilson Upholsterers we also manufactured a range of stunning chairs & sofa’s. Fabrics & colours were chosen to compliment Rachel’s beautiful colour scheme throughout the home.

Built by Brims Construction, the project comprises 28 Extra Care apartments for a mix of individuals and couples and a further two bungalows specially designed to accommodate up to 12 individuals with more complex needs, the development has been the result of extensive consultation with service users and their families.

The combined teamwork of Ambic and their partners has made for a truly beautiful home that we hope all users will be happy in whilst maintaining the safety standards and design criteria required in this specialist setting.

Why did the client choose Ambic?:  Ambic were able to design the furniture specifically to meet the needs of people living with dementia and the quality surpassed that of other similar furniture on the market.

Outcome: “Our customers have been astonished by the quality, look and feel of the Ambic furniture within Havelock Place, our new independent living development for those living with dementia in North Tyneside. The furniture has met our precise brief”
