Park View School Library

Year of project: 2023

Project specification:

Ambic were commissioned by Park View School in Chester-le-Street to refurbish the library at their North Lodge site. A quick turnaround was required as the order was received at the end of September 2023 with a requirement that fitting takes place within the school half term break at the end of October.

A variety of book shelves, tables & chairs, computer desks and storage units along with a specially commissioned Reading Tree Bookshelf  were designed and fit within a very tight timescale.

The Reading Tree Bookshelf was designed from a photograph shown to us by the client, created by layering multiple sheets of plywood with a veneered ply outer to really show off the beautiful grain effect of the wood and this unique piece of furniture has become the centrepiece of this colourful library.

An interesting fact about this installation is that it was designed, manufactured and fit by former pupils of the school –  Shannon, one of our project managers was responsible for managing the whole refurbishment, our Workshop Manager Gareth designed and built the unique Reading Tree feature and Dan, one of our fitters was part of the team that installed the new library.

Shannon said –  “It’s amazing that 10 years ago I was studying in this library and now I’ve had the chance to create something new and inspiring to enhance learning for the next generation of Park View pupils.”

Why did the client choose Ambic?:  Ambic had worked previously with Park View and had a reputation for being able to work to tight timescales and fit during shool holidays.

Outcome: The project was delivered on time and within budget – the project was “value engineered” by our recommendations on materials and design alterations to maximise space and utility allowing the client to add additional products to complement the installation while still remaining within budget.
